“Spirituality In Our Relationships: Hiding in Plain Sight,” Wednesday, May 8, 7 PM
There's Jewish spirituality hiding in plain sight, in the give-and-take between us. Rabbi Dennis Ross of Congregation Mishkan Israel will draw from his latest book, "A Year with Martin Buber" released by the Jewish Publication Society to discuss spiritual opportunities that so often pass unnoticed.

Rabbi Dennis S. Ross is the author of A Year with Martin Buber: Wisdom on the Weekly Torah Portion released by the Jewish Publication Society’s Daily Inspiration Series and named a Top Ten Book by the Academy of Parish Clergy. He is author of God in Our Relationships: Spirituality between People from the Teachings of Martin Buber, and When a Lie Is Not a Sin: The Hebrew Bible's Framework for Deciding (Jewish Lights), and All Politics Is Religious: Speaking Faith to the Media, Policy Makers and Community. Rabbi Ross has written for the New York Times, the Boston Globe, Forward, and other publications.

Rabbi Ross is an Intentional Interim Rabbi and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with specialized training and experience supporting congregations in transition. He is now at Congregation Mishkan Israel in Hamden, Conn., and has served synagogues in Manhattan, Chappaqua, Neponsit, Monroe, Lynbrook, and Albany, N. Y., Summit, N. J., Washington, D. C., and Pittsfield and Worcester, Massachusetts. He serves the Central Conference of American Rabbis as Acting Interim Program Specialist where he directs and provides training for interim rabbis and is on the Board of the Interim Ministry Network, which provides training and support for clergy in interim pulpits.

Sasson v’Simcha Shabbat service with David Sasso and bluegrass musicians!

Please join us for a special Shabbat service - our own David Sasso will lead the music with selections from his recent album, Sasson v’Simcha.
Sasson v’Simcha (Joy and Delight) is a collection of bluegrass-inspired settings of the traditional Shabbat evening liturgy. The service was premiered in 2023 at Congregation Beth-El Zedeck in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the retirement of David’s father, Rabbi Dennis Sasso.
David is excited to share this music with his Connecticut synagogue home. He will be joined by several Boston musicians with whom he recorded the music last spring. The music can be found on streaming services, studio videos on YouTube, or physical copies ordered on Bandcamp.

All of us at TE are feeling the impact of the violence in Israel and Gaza. We are broken-hearted about the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7^th, the loss of life, the hostage-taking, and the brutal violence and terror perpetrated on the Israeli people. We are also impacted by the massive loss of life and the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Over the last few months, a small but diverse group of TE members, convened by our President, has engaged in finding the appropriate format and timing for a conversation. On May 15^that 7pm we invite you to come to TE and join fellow TE members and share your story.

Temple Emanuel is a diverse community. We want TE to be a place where we can grapple with the complexity of issues and diversity of opinions on Jewish identity, Zionism, and the role of the US and American Jews in the conflict. This can be done respectfully and in a manner that encourages community rather than divides.
