Leave a Legacy

Temple Emanuel’s Legacy Initiative

In 2022, Temple Emanuel of Greater New Haven observed its 60th anniversary.   Founded by a group of visionary individuals, our synagogue has thrived as generation after generation has found the Temple a meaningful place to live their Judaism.

Vision for the Future:   While we celebrate our longevity, we give our attention also to our future.  Inspired by the idealism of our founders and the loyalty and dedication of our members through time, we have launched The Temple Emanuel Legacy Initiative.  Our purpose is to motivate past and present members of Temple Emanuel to leave a bequest or planned gift or to create an endowment dedicated to Temple Emanuel in their will.

The Temple Emanuel Legacy Initiative will enable our synagogue to:

  • Perpetuate the unique nature of Temple Emanuel’s engagement with Reform Jewish values, traditions, and customs in our community
  • Provide high quality Jewish education to the children of our community
  • Provide meaningful educational programs for adults in the congregation, the broader Jewish community, and, on occasion, the local interfaith community
  • Inspire children and adults to make Judaism a vital and relevant aspect of their lives

Invest in the future of Temple Emanuel.  Providing for a stable and vibrant future of our synagogue is one of the most important actions you can take as a committed member of Temple Emanuel, and of the greater Reform Jewish community.

We ask that you join us and other members who choose to Leave a Legacy to Temple Emanuel.  For more information, please contact the members of Temple Emanuel’s Legacy Committee: legacy@tegnh.org

Peter and Lee Stolzman

Peter and Lee Stolzman

As young parents Lee and I needed help in raising our children as Jews.  Structure, ritual, education and life cycle support was needed and Temple Emanuel proved to be the answer.  What started as an aid for our children led Lee and I into our own search for answers and our own places in the … Continue reading “Peter and Lee Stolzman”

It all started about 40 years ago. We had recently moved to our new home and were looking for a Sunday school for our daughter to start her Jewish education. We had heard about a small synagogue with a young Rabbi who played guitar, so we decided to try it out. Needless to say, we … Continue reading “Fran and Steve Grodzinsky”

Nancy and Mark Weber

Nancy and Mark Weber

We were engaged, but not yet married, and knew we wanted to be part of a Reform synagogue. Temple Emanuel was close to where we lived at the time. We first attended TE in 1991, just to check it out, and were greeted with open arms and a feeling of belonging. We attended services more … Continue reading “Nancy and Mark Weber”

Betty Goldberg (Orange)

In 1968 my husband and I came to Connecticut for one year of his residency. We had no plans of putting down roots, since this was simply another stop along the educational road. We had both grown up in New York, and hardly realized we were a minority group. Neither of our families were observant, nor … Continue reading “Betty Goldberg (Orange)”

My path to a committed and treasured Jewish life has had bumps, ruts, peaks, and valleys.  Since 1981, when my family moved to Connecticut and joined Temple Emanuel, the path has become gradually smoother and more fulfilling.  Spiritually, socially, and emotionally, Phil and I found our “home-away-from-home family.”  Although some essential aspects of Jewish … Continue reading “Barbara P. TE is a welcoming and supportive community and one that has made important differences in each of our lives.  That’s our strongest reason for deciding to participate in the Leave a Legacy program.  We benefitted from a TE community that was built by members before we joined, and we feel strongly that we want to … Continue reading “Anne and Larry Eisner”

Diane and Harvey Ruben

We were pleased and honored to participate in the Leave a Legacy program so enthusiastically and skillfully established by our Temple committee.  Members since 1975, we have embraced all that this community has to offer through many stages of our lives.  Our youngest son was named right here in the sanctuary.  Our children studied here, … Continue reading “Diane and Harvey Ruben”

Max and Nancy Case

Twenty-seven years ago we joined Temple Emanuel. We found a warm, joyous, musical, and vibrant community- some things never change! Over the years, we experienced numerous transitions: from the old building that served as our sanctuary to the new sanctuary constructed in 1991 (Our son Scott’s Bar Mitzvah was the first Bar Mitzvah in the … Continue reading “Max and Nancy Case”

Charitable contributions have always been part of our family DNA. When I sold my chemical business in 1997, my wife Barbara and I each set up a trust that would provide income for the surviving spouse, while allowing the principal to grow. Upon my death, a portion of the principal will go to a group … Continue reading “Philip Pivawer”

Jean and Jim Silk

Jean and Jim Silk

Our family moved to Connecticut in 1999.  The adjustment was difficult, especially for our 12-year-old daughter – it was her Bat Mitzvah year.  Finding a synagogue was a priority.  Friends in Washington recommended Temple Emanuel.  We visited for Shabbat services and vividly remember how warmly we were welcomed.  A few years later, Jean attended the … Continue reading “Jean and Jim Silk”

Steven and Barbara Goldhamer

Steven and Barbara Goldhamer

We joined TE a few years after relocating to Connecticut.  While we both had pretty typical Jewish upbringings, we had never been affiliated with a congregation during our time together.  Just before the High Holidays, Barbara challenged me to find us a synagogue to belong to or at least one where we could observe the … Continue reading “Steven and Barbara Goldhamer”
